Heat to Treat My Back Pain

If you’ve found this site, chances are that you’ve felt at least a little bit of the pain that I deal with on a regular basis. Most days, I wake up fine, however, as the day goes on, my back progressively gets worse. It’s not the debilitating lower back pain that some people suffer from, but it does make it very difficult, if not impossible, to sleep by the end of the night. My pain lets me continue working throughout the day, but when it comes time to lay down and sleep, I can’t seem to relax. After months of sleepless or near sleepless nights, I finally found a way that I could take my mind off of my pain and actually relax for sleep.

I tried everything that people tell you as far as how to get rid of back pain. I had use the pills, had massages, bought massage chairs and more. None of it would help me get through the night. What I ended up finding that did provide an excellent lower back pain treatment at home, however, was heating pads. When I sit down to start winding down for the night, I put one on my back between it and the chair and watch the nightly news or my favorite tv shows, and then I take it with me when I lay down to bed. How Does Heat Help?

- The heat provided by your heating pad will help to stimulate your skin’s sensory receptors, which will decrease pain signals from the lower back to the brain and relieve, at least minimally, the pain and discomfort that you feel at the end of the day.

- The soft tissues around the spine – such as the muscles, ligaments and others, are easier to stretch when heat is applied. This aids in decreasing the stiffness that you feel and aids in the healing of injuries. It can also help to increase the flexibility and your comfort. Flexible backs are healthy backs, so it’s very important to keep your back’s flexibility up.

Probably one of the biggest benefits to using heat therapy is that in comparison with other therapies you can use to relieve your pain and discomfort, heat is relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to the $60 an hour price tag on many massages.
